Re: Fuel prices - Gas in Victoria
Eastern Australia used to have the cheapest gas in the developed world.
That all changed in 2015 when an export market was created... shipping liquefied gas (LNG) from Gladstone, QLD.
One of my articles: https://renew.org.au/renew-magazine/ren ... trait-gas/
Of course the chart Cal posts are wholesale prices.
Householders pay retail prices that are higher again once the costs of distribution, marketing are added to the retail price.
Households are shielded quite a bit from day to day wholesale price shocks, because part of the price householders pay is unrelated to wholesale prices (rather to distribution, marketing) and also because gas retailers have in place longer-term supply contracts.
